Captain Greg Niles
My name is Captain Gregory David Niles and I hold a current Master 25 Ton Near Coastal Waters License. My Grandpa and Dad, taught me to fish right about the time I learned to walk. I've been fishing Oregon waters since the late 1970s. At ten years old, I caught my first Chinook, it was as big as me, and I have been hooked ever since! I know the Oregon coast like the back of my hand, and when not fishing, I take advantage of the great surf this place has to offer. I have joined up with my partner, Abigail, to show people how we enjoy this amazing coastline. We want to catch fish to eat, but we want to make sure there are fish to catch when we retire!
Abigail DeYoung
I'm a native Oregonian and you can tell! I love the natural world (and even a bit of the unnatural) and jump at the chance to take people out walking and hiking in this gorgeous place where I grew up. Since I find all aspects of nature fascinating, I got a general biology degree and learned a little bit about a whole lot. I finished off my degree with a term at the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology and an internship in Maui working with Hawksbill sea turtles. Since graduating from the University of Oregon in 2007, I have been working in our woods and on our shores. My professional experience ranges from surveying endangered species to teaching kids about water quality in the creeks of the Siuslaw National Forest. I also occasionally forage for Restaurant Beck and my own dinner!
I am a Certified Interpretive Guide through the National Association of Interpretive Guides. Because of my habit of talking about science in layman's terms, I'm able to make the concepts of ecosystem and animal biology easy for people of all ages to understand. Come and play with me in the Oregon Coast Range!
